A Mission Led Through Heart
Sammy’s Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Sammy's is more than a rescue, it’s a home. Founded by lifelong animal rescuer Sara McInnis, our mission is rooted in compassionate care, relational trust, and creating a true refuge for animals, especially Shih Tzus and small-breed dogs, who have been abandoned, surrendered, or forgotten.
While some animals are restored and rehomed, others remain in our long-term care due to chronic or progressive medical conditions. We intentionally keep our group size small to ensure each animal receives the focused, personalized care they deserve—from diagnostic support to daily love and comfort.
Here, every animal is seen, known, and cherished. They find open space to run, soft beds to rest, and people who show up with gentleness and joy.

From Rescue to Rehabilitation
We believe healing happens in relationships. At Sammy’s, we provide:
Safe-Rehoming
We thoughtfully match each animal with a loving home, prioritizing compatibility, patience, and long-term success.
Collaboration with
Local Rescues, Shelters, and Vets
By working together, we extend our impact and create a stronger network of care and response.
Individualized Care & Rehabilitation
Every animal receives a tailored plan that meets their unique medical, emotional, and behavioral needs.
Long-Term Refuge
Some rescues remain with us due to chronic illness or progressive conditions—we provide ongoing care, comfort, and quality of life.
Support for Pet Owners
We support pet owners, facing tough transitions. We offer compassionate guidance and resources for those navigating surrender or end-of-life decisions.
A Place of Love, Designed to Heal
With limited group size, quiet surroundings, and consistent routines, our animals can truly decompress and feel safe.
We don’t just rescue—we walk alongside animals until they’re ready to thrive.

Built on Love.
Run with Heart.
We specialize in Shih Tzus and other small-breed dogs who’ve been surrendered, abandoned, or overlooked. Many are older, medically complex, shy, or misunderstood. We see their worth. We walk with them patiently. And when they’re ready, we help them find their perfect forever match.
Some animals remain in our care for life due to health conditions that require continual treatment, observation, and comfort. Providing quality of life—no matter the diagnosis—is central to our work.
Meet Our Rescues
Each dog in our care has been supported through their healing process, from medical treatment to emotional rehabilitation. Whether you're looking for a quiet lap companion or a playful adventure buddy, we’ll help you meet your perfect match. Please note: Some animals are not listed for adoption due to advanced or ongoing medical needs and remain in our refuge as beloved long-term residents.
