This week at Sammy’s, one of our most spirited seniors — Ace — started a new round of treatment, and as always, he handled it with the determination and charm that makes him such a special part of our rescue family.

Treating Ace’s Eye Ulcer
Ace began 14 days of antibiotic eye drops to treat an ulcer that has been affecting his vision. His eyesight has started to fade, but his spunky personality is stronger than ever. It usually takes two people to get the eyedrops in, but Ace makes even that a team-building exercise.
We’ll be checking back with his veterinarian in two weeks for a progress report, and to support him further we purchased a Halo collar that he can use as needed.

Ace’s Rescue Story
Ace came to us nearly three years ago after being found as a stray, wearing a collar and name tag. When the shelter contacted the owner listed on the tag, they said they no longer wanted him. Ace was suddenly alone, and in rough shape.
Once he became available, we picked him up and got to work right away. He needed:
An urgent groom
Vaccines
Neuter surgery
Heart medication for a heart murmur
And after that? Ace came alive. He’s been unstoppable ever since.
The Spirit That Inspires Us
Even with his vision impairment, Ace moves through the world with confidence. He knows exactly where everything is:
He takes himself outside for potty breaks
He does daily “yard walks” on his own
And if he knows you’re about to pick him up? He runs, just to remind you he’s still in charge.
Ace is fiercely independent, endlessly resilient, and completely beloved. Dogs like him remind us why this rescue exists, and why every animal deserves to be seen, known, and loved.
We are truly blessed to have him in our Sammy’s family. ❤️🐾
